Violeta Ayala is a Co Founder & CEO at unitednotions.film based in United Kingdom, Europe. Award-winning filmmaker, AI hacker, and creative technologist, Violeta Ayala is the first Quechua member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She is a pioneering researcher in AI, XR, world-building, 3D creation, and storytelling, with a focus on Indigenous futurism, decolonial approaches to technology, and AI ethics. Violeta's VR animation Prison X (2021) premiered to critical acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival and Cannes XR, and has been showcased at prestigious venues such as the Forum des Images (Paris), Games for Change (NY), SXSW (Sydney), SIGGRAPH Asia, as well as in galleries and museums in Santiago, Bogota, Prague, Warsaw, and Brisbane, among others. Her award-winning documentaries, including La Lucha (2023), Cocaine Prison (2017), The Fight (2017), The Bolivian Case (2015), and Stolen (2009), have premiered at major film festivals like Sundance and Toronto, and have been broadcast on platforms such as PBS, World, Amazon Prime, and The Guardian. With over 50 awards and nominations, her accolades include a Walkley Award (Australia’s Pulitzer), along with nominations for the IDA (Los Angeles), Rory Peck (London), Platino (Panama), and Fenix (Mexico) Awards. In 2023, Violeta won the XR Innovation Award at the Brain Jam - Games for Change festival for Weaving Worlds, a prototype developed in just 28 hours. Her creative portfolio also includes a metaverse space in Voxels, which received an honorable mention at Yale University’s Indigenous Futurism Model-Making Competition. That same year, Violeta co-designed Expylab, an innovative XR lab based in Paraguay, which won Meta’s Metaverse Community Grant as one of the 10 selected communities. Ayala's project, "Las Awichas," is an XR experience developed in collaboration with King's College London. Displayed at The Strand, one of London's most iconic streets, this exhibition was part of the GLoW project (March and April 2024), celebrating the contributions of women to technological advancement. As a leading voice in "Creating Futures: Art and AI for Tomorrow's Narratives" at the Salzburg Global Seminar, Ayala continues to shape the future of storytelling. Currently, Violeta is working on a personal documentary about her journey to build a Feminist AI (Chicken & Egg / Netflix) and developing a Film Futurist System (MILA, Abundant Intelligences, Google Deepmind) aimed at democratizing filmmaking.
