Scott graduated summa cum laude from De Pauw University and was awarded the Taylor Scholarship Award. Scott graduated fourth in his class from the University of Iowa Law School in 1974 and was the recipient of the Phi Delta Phi scholarship award. He holds a Masters of Law degree in Law and Marine Affairs from the University of Washington. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of the Coif. Scott ran for Position 2 of the Washington Supreme Court in 2012 but was defeated in the primary by Justice Susan Owens. Scott ran against Justice Owens because she was the most senior justice up for election; making clear his dissatisfaction with several rulings by and practices of Washington's Supreme Court. He prefers at this time in history simply engage "we, the people" in a debate, based on evidence, as to whether the judiciary is adequately performing its constitutional duties in the first decade of the twenty-first century. Scott has significant expertise in several areas of the law. He expects to spend the rest of life litigating against banks, servicers, GSEs, vertically integrated foreclosure "trustee" entities, and those others who prey on the middle class for the benefit of wealthy elites.
