For Microsoft, I spearheaded the global field campaign for ISO/IEC adoption of the Office file formats. This mission — to transform a proprietary technology of “the Evil Empire” into an open international standard — was considered unachievable. It meant aligning stakeholders across continents and navigating both technical and political hurdles. In the end, we achieved what had seemed unattainable while protecting billions in revenue and setting the stage for Microsoft’s rapid transformation from “Evil Empire” to respected technology leader in less than a decade. After Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, it quickly became clear how prevalent U.S. chips are in Russian weapons being recovered from the battlefield. I founded ChainSentry to bring that same problem-solving drive to one of today’s most urgent supply chain challenges: unauthorized semiconductor sales in gray markets and diversion to America’s adversaries. ChainSentry is the world’s only provider of forensic intelligence on semiconductor gray markets, shining a light on hidden distribution channels. By tracking and analyzing illicit gray market activity, we help government and industry customers mitigate risks that threaten national security, undermine regulatory compliance, and damage brand integrity. I’ve been described as “able to convince an iceberg to move because it is in your way,” and I thrive on bringing clarity to chaos and making the “impossible” possible.
