For over a decade, I was a pediatric nurse in many capacities, and I enjoyed [almost] every second of it. From elementary school nurse to Neonatal ICU; from Case Management to Medical Device Safety post-market surveillance; from Clinical Nurse Manager to Travel Nurse; nothing made me happier than seeing growth, change, healing, and unification of vulnerable people and their families. I got the same personal satisfaction seeing an employee articulate his or her concerns to a director or physician as I did seeing a baby finish his first bottle feed after months of trying. But- My lack of family time and my body told me it was time for something more. I knew I wanted to be in control of my time and in the amount of money I can make in proportion to how many people I help. As a nurse, I can run circles around a unit saving lives, or around an office saving clients and thousands of dollars for the practice, and still... without another advanced degree, being published, working crazy hours or crazier distances from my kids... I was still just a license on a shift, with a cap on my earnings that I couldn't even negotiate. TWICE, my hourly was even dropped months into a job because of an "error" when I was hired!! Moreover, I didn't even know how to retire someday! I cast my net WIDE to find a way to ethically contribute to humanity and this beautiful earth, but on my own schedule. Finding some great people in the financial industry, I learned I could focus my protective and analytical personality on helping families build their assets exponentially while protecting them from losses and undue taxation in retirement. With this new-found skill of building my own business, I made a second big move and obtained the education I needed to become a Legal Nurse Consultant. Lumina Consulting was born, arming attorneys with clear and concise medical record interpretation, access to the best medical and nursing experts across the nation, and meaningful demonstrative evidence.
