Derek V. C. is a Assistant Professor of Dermatology at University of Central Florida based in New York, New York, United States, North America. Dr. Derek Chan has numerous years of experience in clinical care, biomedical research, C-level executive management, and consulting. He completed his residency in dermatology in 2015 and has clinical expertise in dermatological oncology, drug development, cellular diagnostics, clinical trials, and immunology. He is co-inventor of a set of patented diagnostic antibodies which target immune regulatory cells. These antibodies have been licensed to major Fortune 500 biotechnology companies. Dr. Chan earned an A.B. in Biochemical Sciences with Honors from Harvard where he served as Business Manager of the Harvard Science Review. He received a joint M.D. and Ph.D. from Boston University (BU), where he also held 1 of 10 national fellowships from the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) and was also an recipient of the annual Tai Foundation Scholarship for Merit & Achievement at Boston University School of Medicine. At BU, his research focused on the development of innovative therapies to target specific cancer cells using recombinant fusion proteins. He is a reviewer for Archives of Dermatology and Clinical Cancer Research and has been nationally recognized by the AAAAI and the National Psoriasis Foundation, the Cutaneous Lymphoma Foundation, and the International Society for Cutaneous Lymphomas. He has spoken at several national and international meetings, has received NIH grant funding, and has published in several key peer-reviewed journals (see below) in both immunology and dermatology. Dr. Chan has been featured in both print and online media for both his medical and cosmetic expertise and opinons, including the New York Times, New York Magazine, Westchester Magazine, Business Insider, Daily Mail (United Kingdom), and other publications. Prior to completion of his dermatology residency, he spent time with management consulting firm McKinsey & Company and started and managed a strategy consulting company based in Boston with an office in Los Angeles and clients from as far as Australia. In addition to practicing medicine, Dr. Chan is interested in investing in, advising, and building a portfolio of early-stage, high-growth tech, biotech, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics companies.
